Taskers Gap OHV
The Peters Mill Run / Taskers Gap OHV Trail System in the Shenandoah Valley district of George Washington and Jefferson National Forests is Virginia's largest designated OHV system: 36 miles of trail in Shenandoah County, accessed from the Peters Mill Run trailhead off VA-675 near Edinburg, approximately 10 miles east of I-81 at Exit 257. The system accommodates Jeeps and full-size four-wheel-drive vehicles alongside ATVs, UTVs, and dual-sport motorcycles on a series of connected loops and out-and-back routes through the mountain terrain of the Great North Mountain ridge. Terrain ranges from wide gravel-surface forest roads accessible to most AWD vehicles to narrow technical sections with off-camber slopes, water crossings, and exposed shale that challenge more capable rigs. Elevation ranges from approximately 1,400 to 3,200 feet, with views over the Shenandoah Valley on ridge-top sections. No day-use fee; National Forest system. Primitive camping is available at the Peters Mill Run trailhead and at dispersed sites in the surrounding forest. The Dry Run trailhead provides an alternate access point for the northern loops.
